GUN SAFETY

I will work for a future where all Delawareans are safe from gun violence by:

  • Updating gun control measures that prevent people who may pose a threat to themselves or others – including abusers – from accessing firearms.
  • Working to ensure that guns are kept out of our children’s schools.
  • Supporting and funding community intervention programs to promote an evidence-based approach to reducing gun violence.

REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS & FREEDOMS

I became passionate about reproductive freedom as a student in Ireland and continue to work to ensure that both Delawareans and all Americans will have the freedom and ability to choose how and when to start their families. When elected as your District Representative, I will:

  • Expanding bereavement leave to include miscarriages and stillbirths for all Delawareans.
  • Amending Delaware’s Constitution to protect abortion access, freedom to use contraception, and marriage equality.
  • Expanding access to free menstrual products in restrooms in our universities and state and local government buildings – including libraries and DMVs.

VOTING RIGHTS & PROTECTING OUR DEMOCRACY

Nearly a third of polling places in Delaware are not accessible to voters with disabilities. We have a long way to go to ensure that all eligible Delawareans, especially older, those with disabilities, and those with caring responsibilities are able to vote. I will:

  • Support a Constitutional amendment allowing for no-excuse absentee voting.
  • Protect early in-person and permanent absentee voting through a Constitutional amendment.
  • Ensure that all the polling places are accessible for those using mobility devices.

EDUCATION & CHILDCARE

As a working mom, my top responsibility is ensuring my young son is well cared for and thriving at school. When elected, my priorities will be:

  • Ensuring that every family has options when sending their children to preschool.
  • Creating subsidized childcare for working families.
  • Implementing flexible Kindergarten cutoffs and empowering parents to decide when their child is ready to start school.
  • Preventing lead exposure in schools – especially through water fountains.

SENIORS & AGING DELAWARIANS

I believe older adults deserve to age in dignity, independence, and a high quality of life. Many of our elected officials ignore the challenges faced by our aging population, even though Delaware’s older adult population is growing. I am committed to:

  • Empowering older adults, persons with disabilities, and their caregivers to be active, engaged, and supported in their homes and/or communities of choice.
  • Promoting access to home and community-based services which enable seniors to direct their own care.
  • Preventing abuse, neglect, and exploitation while protecting the rights of older Delawareans and persons with disabilities.
  • Filling the financial gaps for things like dental, hearing, and eye care at the state level where Medicare doesn’t currently cover care.
  • Improving the senior real estate tax credit to provide increased benefits for those in need.

INFRASTRUCTURE

I was born and raised in Hockessin, and I love raising my son here. I am committed to improving transportation and connection so that our community remains a place where people want to grow their families and start small businesses. When I am elected, I will:

  • Work to increase cellular and broadband connectivity in Hockessin and Pike Creek.
  • Create bike-friendly neighborhoods with more sidewalks so children can safely ride their bikes and play outside.
  • Make our roads safer by improving visibility at intersections.
  • Reduce flooding by creating natural infrastructure to improve stormwater management.

HEALTHCARE

Community members share with me that they are having a hard time finding trusted, affordable, and reliable doctors for themselves and their families. When elected, I will support legislation to increase access to affordable and high-quality medical care for Delawareans in all stages of life by:

  • Create incentives for primary care providers, obstetricians, and pediatricians to practice in Delaware.
  • Supporting the establishment of a world-class medical school here in Delaware.
  • Reduce the cost of prescription medications.

ENVIRONMENT

I believe that all Delawareans deserve to breathe clean air and drink clean water. When I am elected, I will work to protect our natural environment and invest in clean energy, so that future generations of Delawareans can prosper. I am committed to:

  • Protecting green spaces, including forests and parks like White Clay Creek
  • Embracing renewable energy by investing in accessible chargers for electric vehicles
  • Protecting Delaware’s natural diversity of wildlife and native plants

My plan for safety and justice is inspired by my work advocating on behalf of survivors of violent crime. I know from experience that collaborative and evidence-based approaches to community safety and criminal justice reform create communities where all people can thrive, and where all people are safe. My priorities are:

  • Creating partnerships between the community and law enforcement to promote a collaborative approach to public safety.
  • Developing a comprehensive reentry system and reducing barriers to returning to society in order to lower the rate at which people are re-incarcerated.
  • Prioritizing funding for gender-based violence services to keep domestic violence shelters open.
  • Ensuring that every law enforcement officer carries naloxone to prevent overdose deaths.
  • Increasing the number of police departments that have behavioral health units to support Delawareans experiencing mental health challenges.
  • Supporting constitutional amendment to prevent the death penalty from being reinstated.

GROWING SMALL BUSINESSES

As a Hockessin resident and a Wilmington commuter, I love shopping, eating, and patronizing local businesses here in Delaware. Our neighborhoods thrive when existing local businesses are supported, and aspiring entrepreneurs have access to resources to bring their talents and ideas to the community. When elected, I will support legislation that:

  • Creates a free and accessible small business manual to help new entrepreneurs.
  • Provides grants to small-scale artists and artisans.
  • Expands access to capital – especially for entrepreneurs and small businesses in underserved areas.

EQUITY & ACCESS

When I am elected, I will fight to make sure that all Delawareans have the opportunity to pursue their dreams, lead lives free of discrimination, and see their stories represented. I am committed to:

  • Ensuring that laws banning racial and sexual discrimination are upheld.
  • Increasing access to higher education for everyone.
  • Promoting inclusive curriculums in k-12 schools and ensuring that all students are able to read books that represent diverse experiences.

LGBTQI+ COMMUNITY

I envision a world where every member of the LGBTQ+ community has the freedom to live their truth without fear and with equality under the law. A recent report shows that LGBTQ+ people are 9 times more likely than non-LGBTQ+ people to be victims of violent hate crimes. I will support initiatives that:

  • Mandate reporting of hate crime statistics based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
  • Prohibit profiling based on LGBTQ+ identities by law enforcement.
  • Create a more safe and equitable environment for LGBTQ+ youth in schools.
